ChargeNode and ABB are developing a smart charging solution that allows many electric cars to share on a central charging source. Resource-efficient technology to meet the growing need for electric car charging.

The strong advance of electric cars has increased the need for smart charging solutions. With innovative ideas and close collaboration with ABB, the company ChargeNode has developed a resource-efficient solution that offers many people access to charging.
More and more people are choosing to drive electric cars, the number of rechargeable vehicles in Sweden has increased by around 70 percent in the last 12 months. By 2030, it is projected that Power Circle There are approximately 2.5 million rechargeable vehicles in Sweden. But as electric cars grow in number, competition for available charging points is also increasing. In order to provide good conditions, a well-developed network of charging stations is needed in both private and public environments.
So how to meet the rapidly increasing charging demand in larger car parks? Equipping a large number of places with complete charging boxes would be very expensive, and also require a massive connection cable with the possibility of large power output from the mains.
But Kristian Sandahl, CEO and founder of ChargeNode, discovered an untapped opportunity: Many electric cars are parked much longer than it takes for them to fully charge, for example outside work, the apartment or the golf club.
“You block the charger for much longer than you use it. And that's unnecessary, he says.
From this realization, the idea of allowing many parking spaces to share the charging capacity was born. Instead of complete charging equipment, ChargeNode's solution is to provide each location with only one connection in the form of an outlet or a charging cable. The connections are connected to a common charging cabinet that, with the help of smart software, distributes the charge to the connected cars so that everyone can have their charging needs satisfied.
“When you park your electric car, you plug it in and indicate in an app when you plan to go, and our software ensures that the car is fully charged until then. If you leave your car for an hour, your car will be charged before mine, which will remain until the end of the working day, Kristian Sandahl explains.
