The climate premium for electric light trucks will remain. It is proposed by the government in the budget bill for 2026.

The government proposes in the budget bill for 2026 that the climate premium for electric light trucks extended until the end of 2027. The subsidy of SEK 40,000, or up to 30 percent of the purchase price, would otherwise have ended as early as October 2025. Now SEK 700 million will be added for 2027 and SEK 800 million for 2028, which will enable continued support and disbursements also in 2028.

Important stimulus

According to Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari, the extension creates “conditions for more emission-free transport” and at the same time strengthens the vehicle manufacturers' ability to develop climate-smart vehicles. The initiative is estimated to reduce the gap to Sweden's ESF commitment by approximately 140,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Long processing times

The pressure to apply for the aid has been high, but the processing is slow. In 2025, only 1,005 premiums have been paid out, while 2,514 applications are still awaiting notification. The waiting period at the Swedish Energy Agency is currently about one year — a situation that 2030 Secretariat lifting as problematic.

“Waiting times of a full year are of course completely unacceptable, especially as you are only allowed to order your electric truck after the premium has been approved,” says Mattias Goldmann, CEO of the 2030 Secretariat. He believes that the government should give the Swedish Energy Agency a clear mandate to shorten the queues to a maximum of three months.

ChargeNode supports electrification

At ChargeNode, of course, we welcome initiatives that stimulate the transition to fossil-free transport of goods and people. That's when we're needed. As more companies invest in electric trucks, charging opportunities must be in place. ChargeNode is ready to support Sweden's electrification with our technology platform for charging — so that the infrastructure can grow in line with the vehicle fleet.
